Valleyview and its surroundings offer superb opportunities for experiencing the paradise that is the great Northern Alberta outdoors. While staying with us this summer, consider getting outside and taking a day trip to one of our region’s scenic and well-equipped provincial parks.
Located on the south shore of Sturgeon Lake only 15 km from Valleyview, Williamson Provincial Park is a local favourite for summer relaxing amongst shady trees and lakeshore beauty.
Bring a picnic or simply relax in a sturdy day use shelter situated in a grove of aged spruce trees. Facilities include a swimming beach, change rooms/toilets, cook shelters, fire pits and water.
Be on the lookout for an impressive variety of birds at this site: over 150 species nest or visit this area in the summer months. You might even hear the famous call of the loon!
The larger of the two parks on Sturgeon Lake, Young’s Point lies at 23 km. distance from Valleyview. A nice feature of this park is its ample opportunities to hike and mountain bike in a grove of the northern boreal forest.
Additional facilities include fire pits, a kids’ playground, flush toilets and a swimming dock. This park is also a fantastic location for birding. The best viewing spot is at the platform at the Beaver Pond.
