Young's Point provincial park alberta accommodations valleyview events hotel rooms

Valleyview is right in the middle of some incredible wilderness and beautiful nature. Not least of all this flora and fauna is Young’s Point Provincial Park, a remarkable destination for nature-lovers of all kind, any time of year. Next time you’re in Valleyview, make some time to visit this park, not just for the scenery and fresh air, but for the great activities available as well.

Young’s Point is home to all the traditional park activities, but taken to another level. The park is full of great hikes along the beautiful beaches and through the picture-perfect forests. There’s also both mountain biking and cycling, for those who love off road and those who prefer to stay on them. Horseshoes are also available, as is swimming.

On the water

Speaking of swimming, there’s plenty more to do with the water. There are docks for fishing, and plenty of room for kayaking and canoeing, but if you’re looking for something a step up, try sailing, power boating, water-skiing, or even wind-surfing. The park’s vast blue lake is perfect for all of the above, so prepare to get your feet wet!

The park is much more than an activity center, though. Visitors can look to the skies (or up in the trees) with their binoculars for some excellent birding. Keep your binoculars close to the ground, too, as there’s plenty of wildlife viewing available (can you spot a moose?). If you find nature to be a poor teacher for the day, pay attention to the interpretive program as it guides you through the park and all it has to offer the keen observer and open mind.

There’s a reason Young’s Point makes such an excellent place to spend time, and it isn’t just because it’s beautiful, so next time you’re in town, grab your outdoor equipment and make for the park! When you get back, be sure to also make a point of staying in our modern hotel. Book your room today. We look forward to your visit!

It’s a common saying that good comes with bad, or vice versa, and for many local golfers, the winter months can definitely be seen as bed—cold weather and short days often cause courses to close. But these golfers don’t mind, because they know that with the slow winter comes an incredible spring and summer fit with the perfect conditions for golf: long, warm days will let you get your tee time in as late as 9:30 some nights! And because of this, many Albertan courses are definitely seen as a special place to be a golfer. We’ve picked three of our favourites, so next time you’re in Valleyview, be sure to book a tee-time. Heck, book three—you’ll have plenty of time to get through them all!

Valleyview Riverside Golf Course

This is a 9-hole public course, making it perfect for beginners or those looking to get through a quick round. However, its size does nothing to diminish its enjoyment: this picturesque course sits alongside the Little Smoky River, and has plenty of trees and water to keep things interesting. Afterwards, stop in at the clubhouse for a drink, because this course is as fun to look at as it is fun to play! See the course here.

Gunby Ranch Golf Course

With 9 holes, this is another great course for a quick round. However, the course offers two rounds for a reason: you’ll love the first 9 so much, you’ll want to do them again! Pro tip: keep your eye on the ball, and don’t let the beautiful birch trees circling the course distract you! Learn more here.

Greenview Golf Resort

Situated right on the picturesque Sturgeon Lake, this course features wide open greens, perfect for taking the cart out. Greenview is noted for their great service “on and off the course”, so feel free to stop in for a chat about that clutch birdie on the seventh hole! Check out their website here.

Now that spring is in the air, it’s been met with a ton of flying golf balls, and for good reason! Don’t miss out on Valleyiew’s golf season this year. And while you’re in the area, be sure to stay in our comfortable accommodations. Book your room today. We look forward to your visit!

fun in valleyview

It’s a Tinkerbell Takeover! - Free Movie March 5 & 6

Take in a free movie, Tinkerbell and the Legend of the Neverbeast, next week in Valleyview. A true Disney affair, the movie explores the old adage “don’t judge a book by its cover.” E xcept in this case, you can’t judge a huge mysterious creature called a Neverbeast by its fangs ...you know how this Disney thing works.

Check it out at the New Fish Creek Hall on Thursday, March 5 at 6:30 p.m. or take in a matinee at the Polar Palace Friday, March 6 at 1 p.m. Both locations are less than five minutes by car from our hotel.

Game On! March 13

Shake off any unlucky Friday the 13th vibes and bring the whole family to a fun games night at Valleyview’s Polar Palace

on March 13 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Taking things back to the good old basics of family entertainment, the evening features board games, giant chess and checkers, popcorn and door prizes. Hot dogs sold for $1 as well.

Into The (Frozen) Woods

It may still be the dead of winter here in Valleyview, but there is still hunting to be done! Valleyview is known for excellent hunting year-round thanks to our unique mix of forest and farmland. While you may have a few more months to wait for the chance to hunt big game including bear, deer, moose and elk, Valleyview’s own Red Willow Outfitters offers rifle and bowhunts for wolf and coyote until March 15.

Make sure you have a comfortable place to kick off your boots after the hunt, and book a room with us! We offer a full continental breakfast and waffle bar, as well as an in-house Tim Hortons restaurant to make your wake-up as pleasant as possible.
